Should I eat fruit on a bariatric eating diet? Maybe...

Everyone knows that fruit is a healthy food right up there with vegetables, right?

Yes, BUT it depends on which fruit and where you are in your weight loss.

Learn if the fruit you are eating is slowing your weight loss! Sweet means high in carbs.

Fruit has vitamins, minerals, and fiber but can be sky high in loosely connected sugar molecules that your body grabs and burns instead of your stored fat.

People making 'high calorie weight gainer shakes' will commonly use whole milk, peanut butter and ripe bananas. So that is not the recipe to use for a weight loss protein drink!

DON’T add a banana to your protein drink if you’re trying to lose weight!

Watch your portion size and don’t eat canned fruit in syrup. (Libby’s has lovely canned Splenda peaches that we love with cottage cheese and cinnamon).

Dried fruits are high in concentrated sugar carbs and are not bariatric friendly!

Keep track of all your Carbs!

Most of us need help to know what is a good choice and what is a bad choice.

Carbs are confusing - how can donuts and spinach be in the same nutrition category?

But don't worry, we've made it super simple with the BE Low Carb Fruit & Veg Cheatsheet!
